Restricted Licensing Course
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Restricted) is the required training to apply for a Restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence (RPAL) in Canada. This instructor-led 4-hour in-class course builds on the Non-Restricted curriculum and focuses on the safe handling, legal responsibilities, transportation, and storage of restricted firearms. The course includes a practical examination, full guidance through all required paperwork, and completed documentation provided upon successful completion for submission to the RCMP.
Completion of the Non-Restricted course is required prior to taking this course. The Restricted course can be booked at the same time as the Non-Restricted course and typically runs on the following day.
Includes
- Canadian firearm safety rules (ACTS and PROVE)
- Safe handling, loading, and unloading of common non-restricted and restricted firearm action types
- Ammunition types for rifle, shotgun, and handgun
- Best practices for firearm use at the range and in the field
- Carrying positions and basic firearm cleaning principles
- Overview of Canadian firearms laws and legal responsibilities
- Hands-on practice session using deactivated firearms
- Federal written and practical examinations (CRFSC – Restricted)
- Completion of official course paperwork provided to the student for submission to the Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) upon successful completion
All course fees are non-refundable once payment has been made. If a student is unable to attend their scheduled course date, one reschedule is permitted to a future available course date, subject to availability. Any additional cancellations or failure to attend the rescheduled course will result in the forfeiture of the course fee.
